You’re Oat-ally Going To Want To Try This

Oat milk is a non-dairy substitute that has risen to popularity in the past couple of years and can now be found in most coffee shops! Of Course, along with the rise in popularity came the rise in cost and so I started looking to see if I could make it on my own. This recipe was created by my friend Jaelyn Harlow and is by far the best recipe I have found (I love her little additions to the traditional recipe!). As she grows and shares her creativity, I have been inspired to share it with you too. Today I am excited to share her Oat Milk Recipe with you all!

About The Author:

Hi there! I’m Jaelyn Harlow, but I go by Jae, & if I were to describe myself in a short sentence, I would say that I am a puppy, pizza, coffee, & Jesus lover. I love doing anything creative & I’ve recently gotten into various different home projects. Ever since I started building a life with my husband & new puppy, my goal was to strive to make less waste as a family. My low waste journey has led me to try new things like growing my own sprouts, making my own oat milk, crocheting my own cotton rounds, & tackling many other homemade sustainable projects or household swaps. This has constantly challenged me to embody more intentionality in everything I do! In regards to the world & people around me, I’m striving to learn more, create more, & love more.

Jae’s Oat Milk Recipe

Step 1:

Blend all ingredinets together for 45 seconds- 1 minute

Step 2:

Strain the mixture through a french press and keep your oat milk in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days! You can also easily double the recipe like I did for even more oat milk yumminess

DIY All-Natural Toner For Acne Prone Skin

Trying to balance my skin has always been a struggle but the more I learn about my skin type the more I discover how to best take care of it. Since I have been ‘blessed’ with very dehydrated but oily skin, toner has become one of my favorite ways to keep my skin from getting too oily when used in combination with a hydrating moisturizer. I have tried a lot of different products but my favorite so far has been the cheapest and easiest to make out of all of them!

Step 1: Sanitize Container

Make sure that the container you are using is sterile! Containers that are not sanitized could cause your toner to expire faster or in some cases even grow mold.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients

Combine distilled water, witch hazel, tea tree oil, and aloe vera in your glass mister bottle. It is important to use distilled water to prevent any bacteria from forming in the future!

Step 3: Shake and Voila!

Shake before each use and spritz away!

Its as easy as that! Witch hazel is a great way to balance the PH of your skin and help prevent acne without over-drying

My Favorite Morning Detox: Celery-Ginger-Lemon Juice

When it comes to health fads endorsed by celebrities I tend to stay far away, but this new Kylie Jenner promoted celery juice cleanse grabbed my interest too much not to give it a try. I love green juices (especially those with a little kick!) and so drinking celery juice every morning was one health trend I was willing to try… but with a couple adjustments because let’s be real, drinking straight up celery juice with nothing else in it sounds like yak.

  • 2 Bunches of Celery Stalk
  • 3 Small Lemons or 1 and 1/2 Large
  • 2 Large ‘Fingers’ of Ginger
  • 1 Cup Of Water
  • Optional: 1 Small Green Apple
  • Optional: Cayenne Pepper

Step 1: Chop

Coarsely peel and chop ingredients, throwing out the leaves in the center of the celery bunches.

Step 2: Blend

Blend together celery, lemon, ginger, and the optional green apple (If you like your juice on the sweeter side) as thoroughly as possible before adding the cup of water and continuing to blend until smooth. Blenders with less horsepower may need more water to help it blend properly.

Step 3: Strain

Strain the juice from the pulp using cheesecloth or nut-milk bag into a pitcher.

Step 4: Pour and Enjoy!

Pour over ice, top with a sprinkle of Cayenne Pepper if you like an extra kick, and enjoy! This crisp, tart, and refreshing juice is the best way to wake up in the morning!

WARNING: Know The Must-Ask Questions Before Signing Up For A Beauty Academy or Training

With so many amazing new beauty treatments hitting the market people are chomping at the bit to get certified, but with so many academies and trainings out there, how do you know who to learn from? When researching Beauty academies or trainings there are many Lucrative & Exciting new beauty services to learn such as Microblading, Lash lift, Scalp Micropigmentation, Fibroblast Skin Tightening, Hyaluron Pen and so much more, but there are important things to look out for when researching an academy or trainer. In this article I am going to be going over the important questions you should be asking before signing up to have someone train you in the newest beauty procedures to ensure that you get the best training possible and avoid falling prey to inexperienced instructors just looking to make a buck!

Professional trainings should look like this one below, extremely hands on and focused on helping the students put their new knowledge into a guided practice

@beverlyhillsmicroblading @blazeneedling @hyaluronpenbeverlyhills @ekbhbeauty

Questions you need to ask before signing up for a beauty academy or training:

How long have they been in the industry and how many clients have they worked on?
With each client that an artist works on they are learning more and more every time and gaining not only a better understanding of the skin, but they also encounter a wider variety of skin types therefore giving them more in-depth experience.

How many people have they taught?
In addition to seeing how many clients they have preformed the procedure on, it is also important to see how many trainings they have given in the past to show that they are not only experienced in what they are teaching but also how they are teaching it.

Do they have a gallery with 2+ years of experience?
Another important factor when looking for an instructor is that they have a gallery that is not only plentiful, but that they have one that demonstrates they have been doing this for multiple years. Just because and instructor shows that they have worked on many clients, does not mean they are not brand new to preforming this procedure.

Do they have a successful business?
One easy way to tell the quality of a training is to look at the instructors business as a whole. Does every aspect of their business thrive? Ultimately, you are looking for a trainer to teach you a skill that is going to further and better your own business, so someone who’s business outside of the training is not thriving should not be teaching you how to grow yours!

Who did they learn from and when?
You are paying money to be certified for this new beauty skill so do not be shy about asking for the trainers background! To ensure that an instructor is not giving out certifications without having the proper training background themselves, don’t be shy about asking for their credentials and when they were trained and received a certificate themselves. This is also a quick way to see how long they themselves have been practicing this procedure for.

Are they trying to make a quick buck? Or are they the best of the best?
Signing up for a training without doing your background research is dangerous because unfortunately there are many inexperienced people out there who are offering trainings not because they want to share their experienced passion but instead because they are looking to make a quick buck! Making sure you ask all of these questions before signing up for a course is a good way to weed out those who are only in it for the money.

Do you admire their work?
Lastly, it is important to admire the work of the person you are learning from. Do your research, look at all of the instructors past work, and if you want to be giving your clients the beautiful results that they give theirs, then thats a good sign that they are the instructor you want to be learning from!

The Beauty Academy/Trainings I Recommend:

Before signing up for a training it is important to make sure that you also understand what it looks like when a procedure is taught incorrectly. For instance, if you were researching where to get certified for the new Fibroblast Blaze Needling procedure, you would want to look up and gain an understanding for what the procedure looks like when it is done correctly and what the things to look out for are when it is taught incorrectly. As a reference I have included examples of proper vs. improper techniques when preforming the Fibroblast Blaze Needling procedure below.

DIY Grapefruit All-Purpose Natural Cleaner

Household cleaners are one of the biggest offenders of containing dangerous chemicals that often get ignored because they are deemed ‘necessary’ to properly kill germs and we would rather have chemicals than germs right?…. Wrong! Recently I have learned that there are plenty of natural ingredients that can be found in your kitchen that are just as effective at killing bacteria and cutting through dirt. Before I start ranting about how great all natural cleaners can be I have to admit- I still hold on to a love for bleach. I love the way it instantly turns yucky things pearly, but I can still only use it very carefully in my bathtub without ruining the carpet and rest of my place, so I needed to find an all purpose cleaner that would be safe on all surfaces in addition to being completely pet safe. After spending a little too much money on natural cleaning products that worked great, I decided to start making my own after realizing how simple the ingredients were! The one that I am sharing with you today has been my go to household cleaner because it works well, is easy to make, and it safe on so many different surfaces (which not only I love but my adventure loving pet lizard loves too)!

  • White Distilled Vinegar
  • A Few Pieces Of Citrus Peels (I use Grapefruit Peels but Orange or Lemon will work too)
  • Essential Oil of Choice (I used Lemon, Orange, and Thyme because of their antibacterial cleaning powers!)
  • Distilled Water
  • Mason Jar
  • Glass Spray Bottle (Click here to see the super useful set I am always buying more of!)

1. Fill Mason Jar With Citrus Peels

I like to use grapefruit peels simply because I eat a grapefruit every morning so it was easy to just throw my peels into a jar instead of in the trash! It is important to not fill over half of the jar with citrus peels because too many peels will cause the solution to start molding while it is infusing. If you find that your solution is starting to grow mold, dump it out and try again with less peels and more vinegar.

2. Add In Distilled Vinegar

3. Place In Pantry For 2+ Weeks

Don’t panic, two weeks goes by faster than you think! You must have patience young grasshopper.

4. Strain Vinegar Into Glass Spray Bottle+ Add Essential Oils

5. Add Equal Parts Distilled Water

Using distilled water helps to prolong the shelf life of your cleaner! I also added dried thyme to my spray because of its antibacterial properties…plus I have to admit I mainly just like the way it looks in the glass bottles.

6. Spray and Enjoy!

When spraying the product it will have a vinegar scent at first but don’t worry, that goes away as soon as it dries and you are left with only the scent of your essential oils.

What Exactly Is Microblading?

Questions I Had About The Procedure:

What Exactly Is Microblading?
Microblading is a semipermanent technique which uses a small blade to scratch pigment into the skin to mimic fine hair strokes.

So Is This A Tattoo?
Kinda…but not exactly. The main difference is that the pigment in this procedure is put in with a blade instead of needles (although needles can be used for shading using a differnt technique) and the pigment does not go as deep into your skin as it does with a tattoo gun.

What Makes It Semi-Permanent?
In contrast to a traditional tattoo, the pigment in microblading is not being pushed as deeply into your skin. This means that over time the pigment can start to fade from sun exposure, exfoliation, or from natural oils being pushed through the epidermis. It is recommended that you get an annual touchup to refresh the strokes.

Why Is Semi-Permanent A Good Thing?
Pigments that are pushed too deep into the skin have a tendency to not look as natural as the fine hair strokes that can be created with microblading. Microblading also has a lower risk of scarring and damaging sensitive facial skin than traditional tattooing.

Does It Hurt?
Yes and No. Pain tolerance is very differnt for everyone so it can vary depending on the person. The salon I went to used a high quality numbing cream and I personally could not feel anything at all until the very end of the procedure and even then it just felt like a small scratch. Having said that though, they are slicing into your face… so even though numbing cream is used and I didn’t experience pain, don’t be surprised if there is some pain involved.

What Is The Pre-Care?
Don’t drink any caffeine the day of the procedure. Do not drink alcoholic beverages 48 hour prior to procedure or take blood thinners. Discontinue Fish Oils, Omegas, and all alpha hydroxy products one week prior. Let your artist know if you are on Accutane, Antibiotics or Proactive. Botox procedures should not be done 3 weeks prior to microblading. Lastly, It is best to NOT schedule an appointment during your menstrual cycle week and you cannot get microblading done if you are pregnant or breastfeeding!

What Is The Aftercare?
Aftercare can vary by artist and skin type but listed here is the most common aftercare. Every two hours after your initial microblading session, it is recommended that you cleanse the eyebrows with gentle soap or a make up remover wipe(Only the first day). Remove all the lymph to avoid crusting the first day. Gently wipe in direction of hair. This will not remove the pigment. Do not scrub, lightly cleanse. After 24 hours apply Aquaphor to the brows as needed to prevent dry scabbing. Over the next 7-14 days you have to avoid all extreme water exposure, saunas, heavy sweating or working out, steamy showers/jacuzzi, sun tanning, picking/peeling/scratching the microbladed area, sleeping on your face, or touching the microbladed area.

What If I Don’t Like It?
A long as you do your research and go to an experienced artist who uses high quality pigments, trust me you’re going to love it. BUT. If it eases any anxiety you may have, the pigment can be completely dissolved immediately after the procedure if you are unsatisfied with the results.

The Process:

Step 1: Numbing

Before numbing cream is applied be sure to let your artist know if you have any allergies to Lidocaine or Rubbing Alcohol.

Step 2: Mapping/ Approval

The artists uses measurements to map out the perfect brow for your face and then works with you to ensure you love it before getting started.

Step 3: Blading

The blade is dipped into the pigment and then scratched into the skin mimicking small hair strokes.

Step 4: Masking

Ahh the most attractive step in the process. After scratching the pigment into your skin, more pigment is applied on top to ensure that all the color is absorbed.

Step 5: Repeat steps 3 &4 As Needed

Step 3 and 4 combined is called a ‘pass’. Artists will usually do about 3 passes to create your new brow.

Step 6: Check Out Your New Brows!

Heyoooo the best step in the process! It is important to keep in mind that at this point your brows will still be about 20% darker and thicker than the final brow will be since the inflammation makes the initial color appear darker and the strokes will shrink as they heal.

I am so beyond happy with my brows and have gotten the best confidence boost from them! If you are looking for fuller brows I would highly encourage you to check out microblading. I got mine done by the amazing artist Erica at You can also check out her work on Insta @beverlyhillsmicroblading !

Summer Style: The Comfy and Affordable Brand I Am Loving Right Now

If you have been following my blog you know that next to style, the most important question I ask before I buy an outfit is “could I take a nap in this?”. For this exact reason, I have been LOVING target’s line of Women’s Clothing Wild Fable! Not only are all of their clothes super comfortable and cute but they are shockingly affordable. The Shirt:

After buying this plain rolled sleeve t-shirt I immediately went back the next day and bought one in both colors. The fabric is thick which helps the sleeves stay rolled and the cut across the bottom is cropped but not too short where it shows my stomach. Get yours here! —> Women’s Short Sleeve Boxy T-Shirt – Wild Fable™

The Shorts:

I often get stuck between only wanting to wear high waisted bottoms and never wanting to wear them again because of the tight digging feeling around the waist that most high waisted bottoms give you… but not these ones guys, these are gold. These high waisted shorts have a soft elastic band so they stretch and move with you! Ya know, like the little jean shorts you used to put on your build-a-bear, or the toddler version that kids wear that are all stretchy at the top so they can climb on the jungle gym without them falling? Yeah like those, except super stylish and made for adults. Can I get a HECK YA. Get your pair here! —–> Women’s High-Rise Elastic Waist Jean Shorts – Wild Fable™ Light Acid Wash

Lavender Peppermint Room and Body Spray

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Any profits go towards enhancing my blog and helping me to continue sharing with you all the things that I love!

Step 1: Brew The Lavender and Strain Into Spray Bottle

Boil 2 cups of distilled water over 3/4 cups of dried lavender and let steep for 20 minutes. Strain the mixture into spray bottle using funnel. It is important that you use distilled water for this because the minerals in other drinking water can cause your spray to expire faster.

Step 2: Add Withhazel

Add 1/4 cup Witch Hazel to the spray bottle. Vodka can be used instead if you do not like the scent of Witch Hazel but I prefer Witch Hazel because it is a great more-affordable option compared to vodka. This step in the process is important because it helps the water and essential oils to mix properly and also helps to naturally preserve the mixture.

Step 3: Add Essential Oils

Add 20-30 drops of lavender and 20 drops of peppermint. I added more lavender than I did peppermint because peppermint is a strong scent and can overpower the lavender if too much is added.

Step 4: Add Nozzle, Shake, And Voilà!

Leave enough room in the bottle when adding in the mixture so that it does not spill over when you add in the nozzle. I like to use this mist on linens and as a cooling body spray. Shake before each use and enjoy!
